At Unilever, we are looking forward to a fantastic 2010 within our ice cream business. We are lucky to have most of the biggest high street names in ice cream with favourites such as Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, Cornetto, Twister, Solero and many more. Unilever continues to be a key player in the ice cream market with 8 of the top 10 selling impulse ice creams made by us. In 2010, we will continue to invest significantly in many of our big brands. Once again, we will be supporting our brands with advertising from early in the year to make sure you can maximise your lolly.
We are also extremely excited about 2010 innovation. It is one of the strongest innovation years with a new breakthrough Cornetto Enigma (a cone with no boring bits), Milk Time coming to a squeezy tube format and the hugely anticipated launch of Magnum Gold?! with huge TV support.
The ice cream market has proven to be a recession proof category in 2009. In the face of the economic downturn with RSV sales now over £800m and a growth of 4.8% in 2009, ice cream continues to be an important impulse product for retailers. Consumers clearly see it as a small affordable treat that they do not want to give up.
